About

In April 2005 .. I heard the results of my first ever physical examination and among other things, was told that my “bad” Cholestrol levels are slightly above normal and my “good” cholestrol levels are slightly below normal. Being a little overweight, there was concern for me to lose weight.

In May 2005, with my wife Yvonne, we joined Weight Watchers Plan and attended weekly weigh-ins. I have created a Recipe and Points Page related to Weight Watchers and our experience with counting points.

Well, I’m so proud of my wife who, by October 2005 reached her Lifetime Achieved Weight Goal! Unfortunately, after that - I seemed to go slack on this diet. By mid-2006 I basically was off this diet and didn’t care.

January 1, 2007 - “Take Two” .. I went back to my diet and exercising, and started to document by pictures of what I was eating. I figured, the mental requirement to post a picture every day of what I was eating and the points it represented .. was good enough to keep me motivated. Unfortunately, by April 2007 (during my busiest time at work) the pictures were being neglected .. and so was my monitoring what I was eating.

By summer, it was great to exercise, swim, walk and be healthy at the cottage - but it was a basic wash with the local bakey and BBQ’s and all that eating while we were out at the beach! By fall of 2007 - I was not counting points anymore. When I was not posting pictures of my meals and documenting what I have been eating, in the HART’s Getting In Shape category and I’m pretty much back in the same physical condition I was back in April 2005 - except with more stress.

So .. 2008 will be my third try at getting back into shape. I know it’s a long-term benefit for me to enjoy my old age and retirement with good health .. and my wife deserves that too. Besides using this “Battling Obesity” blog as HART’s Personal Diary .. I will be posting a lot of articles about fitness, weight loss, and general health news and stories, and hopefully - for all us Battling Obesity - we can finally get back into shape!

3 people thinks stuff!

  1. Kudos to you! I’m going to do it with you! I’m starting by daily swimming exercises and eating healthy. When it cools off a little outside i’ll start walking 3 days a week also.
Do you have any suggestions for swimming exercises?

  2. Hart and Tara, Good Luck to both of you in your battles against obesity. I’m getting ready to start battling myself. I’m 5/8″ and prob. weigh 260 lbs…have been very depressed about it all, which only makes me eat more, of course…sigh.
Tara, how is your swimming program going? I’m planning to join a local YMCA this week. I’m desparate! If I get any fatter I’m going to be so physically uncomfortable…I can barely stand it now. Thanks for your inspiration! Lou

  3. Good Luck to you both! I just renewed my YMCA membership for another year and have been trying to go every morning at 6:30am until 8:30am for treadmill and swimming.
